About Haley Yardcare

In the Avenues the yards are small and stacked like shelves — terraced behind low walls, reached by stairs, each one its own separate puzzle. Haley Yardcare works through them in April, when lilacs break open along the numbered streets and the grass starts growing faster than anyone intends to keep up with. Mowing, trimming around fence posts and tree wells, edging the stone walks, hauling winter's leftover leaves out of the corners where they packed down. A yard sitting eight steps above the sidewalk still deserves a straight cut, and it gets one. From up there the grid of the city runs out flat and silver toward the lake.
