About SnS Excavation

Salina takes its name from the salt that used to be worked out of the ground nearby, and the same red rock and pale canyon walls that hid those old deposits still frame the town on its eastern edge, catching first light well before the valley floor does. The Sevier River runs quiet and half-frozen at its margins through the winter months, cutting past the edge of town on its way north, indifferent to whatever's falling from the canyon above it. Clearing ground here means working with what the canyon sends down — snow that blew in overnight off the high rock, banking deeper in some yards than the storm alone would explain. A driveway backed up against that eastern rise gets shadowed most of the morning, holding its ice longer than a lot out in the open valley, and needs the extra pass to break it up properly. The work follows the terrain instead of fighting it, low ground first while it's still frozen hard, higher ground after the sun starts to soften what's left. By the time full daylight reaches the canyon walls, Salina's driveways and walks are already scraped down to bare ground, well ahead of the trucks working their way up the grade.
