Riverton's newer subdivisions are a maze of curving streets and cul-de-sacs, and after a night storm the plow work follows that same geometry — around the bulb at the end of each dead-end, down the long curve of a collector street, into driveway after driveway set at slightly different angles to the curb. Street lights catch the snow well after midnight, when the plowing usually starts, throwing long shadows off mailbox posts and young trees still staked from planting. These are young streets, curbs poured within the last decade, concrete still pale and unweathered under the snow, and clearing them clean matters to homeowners who take pride in how new everything still looks. Each cul-de-sac gets worked in from the outside in, a tightening spiral that leaves the bulb clear last and the piles pushed to the outer edge where nobody's driveway will need to fight them again. By early morning, before the first commute pulls out of a garage, the whole curving grid is passable, cleared well before anyone backs out of a driveway.
