Perry's peach orchards go dormant under a coat of lake-effect snow that arrives off the Great Salt Lake and piles up against the Wasatch benches before anyone in Brigham City has even brushed off a windshield. Alpine Gardens spends the growing season shaping beds and rows along Three Mile Creek, and winter turns that same attention toward driveways and walks, clearing them block by block while the orchard rows stand bare and white in the early light. There's care in leaving a garden bed's edging undisturbed by the plow blade, in shoveling a path that curves the way the flower beds will curve again come April. The work follows the town's grid from the creek out toward the orchards, salt going down on shaded walks where the frost holds longest. By the time the sun climbs over the mountains, the driveways sit clear and the orchard rows wait quietly under their own blanket of snow.
