On the south bench, new streets keep arriving toward Elk Ridge and Woodland Hills, and every one of them begins as bare dirt with a view. Green Side Up Landscapes turns that dirt over in May — grading, soil work, sod laid green side up and rolled tight, watered in until it knits. Then the upkeep starts: cutting at the right height, trimming out the fence lines, edging new walks so the concrete stays sharp against the turf. Watching a raw lot become a lawn in three weeks is the best part of the job. This soil will grow nearly anything, so long as somebody prepares it first.
