The wetlands at the Swaner Preserve green up before anything else in the basin does, and redwing blackbirds start calling from the cattails while the yards nearby are still brown. Park City Greenleaf takes that as the starting gun: spring cleanups first, then aeration and fertilization to wake up turf that has been sleeping under three feet of snow, then the mowing and edging that carry through to September. Trimming keeps the lines honest around fences, mailbox posts and the boulders left standing in half the front yards in town. Fall cleanups put everything to bed again before the ground locks up. It is a short green season and worth spending well.
