Ben Lomond stands sharp to the north of South Ogden on the clearest winter mornings, its peak catching light long before the bench below does. Salazar Scoops works at ground level while that happens — driveway by driveway, scoop by scoop, clearing the walks and aprons that ice over fastest along the bench's older streets. There's a rhythm to it: scrape, lift, toss, move down the walk, repeat at the next house, breath showing in the cold before the sun's fully up. The name suits the work — this is snow removal reduced to its simplest form, a blade and a scoop against however much fell overnight. By the time Ben Lomond's light reaches the valley floor, the sidewalks along a finished block are already bare.
