There is a stretch of September in North Salt Lake when the mornings come in heavy with dew along Orchard Drive and a mower leaves a dark track behind it in the wet grass. Howards Lawn Care is out in that hour, cutting, trimming and edging, then clearing the clippings off the walks and drives. Fall is aeration season here too, because the soil is dense and pulling cores is how air and water reach the roots before the cold sets in. Overseeding follows, and then leaf cleanup as the maples begin letting go. By the first hard freeze the yard has been put to bed properly.
