When a winter storm stalls against the Wasatch Plateau, it spills snow out of Twelvemile Canyon and across the quiet fields of Mayfield, a farming town in Sanpete County tucked against the mountains. Madsen Excavation, an excavation company used to moving earth, turns that muscle toward snow removal, opening drives and farm lanes after each storm. Snow in Sanpete can fall heavy and wet at midday and freeze hard by dusk, so pushing it aside while it is still soft makes all the difference. The cleared drives run straight and wide, with snow piled far enough back that the gate swings and the truck turns.
