Loa borrowed its name from Mauna Loa, chosen by a settler who had served a mission in Hawaii, though the mountain that watches over this town is Thousand Lake Mountain, broad and timbered on the eastern skyline. In September, when rabbitbrush blooms yellow across Rabbit Valley and frost silvers the grass at dawn, KT Leveling LLC keeps Loa's lawns mowed and trimmed for the last stretch of the season. Lawns at this height earn every green week, and a clean, level cut sends them toward winter in good order. Boulder Mountain darkens to the south as the days shorten, and the yards in town glow against the fading autumn fields. Loa may wear a Hawaiian name, but its yards are pure high-mountain Utah: short-season, hardy and quietly proud when the work is finished.
