Late summer in La Verkin belongs to the monsoon — thunderheads stacking over the mesas by afternoon, a hard warm rain, then the smell of wet dust and river cottonwood rising off the Virgin. The Tree Guy keeps lawns through that stretch, when a yard can go from cracked to shooting in three days and want cutting twice in a week. Mowing beneath the big shade canopies, trimming around trunks and drip lines without scarring bark, bringing the edge of the walk back to a true line after the runoff silts it in. Shaded turf wants different handling than the open sun-baked ground, so feeding and weed control shift from one side of a yard to the other. When the storms slide off toward Zion and the light returns low and orange, the grass is cut and the yard is squared away for the week.
