The fields around Hyrum still run on the same canal system that's watered this end of Cache Valley since the valley was first farmed, ditch banks cutting straight lines across ground that's dead flat until the Wellsvilles rear up at its edge. Israelsen Landscape clears the farm lanes that follow those ditches, driveways running long and low between fields gone white and quiet for the winter. Snow lies differently on plowed ground than on pavement, holding moisture the fields will want come spring, so the lanes get cleared without disturbing the field edges alongside them. Dawn here means fog off the ditch water and a lane scraped bare well before the first truck needs to get out to check on stock, mountains just starting to show through the haze.
