Lagoon sits quiet and closed through the winter, its rides bare against the sky at the north end of Farmington, and R2 Landscape's route runs right past it on the way to the older neighborhoods closer to Main Street, where the same lawns the crew mows all summer need their walks cleared instead. Farmington's historic core still keeps its wide park strips and mature trees, planted back when this was a farming town along the Wasatch bench, and snow collects differently there than in the newer additions — shaded longer, melting slower. The crew works the same lots year-round, so a driveway plowed in January is one they laid sod on the previous June, which makes reading where the drainage runs and where ice tends to form mostly a matter of memory. Salt goes down on the park-strip crossings first, since that's where a sidewalk narrows to a single icy step down to the street. It's a landscape crew's winter route through a town it already knows by its lawns.
