Fairview sits right at the foot of the Wasatch Plateau, close enough that Fairview Canyon and the start of Skyline Drive are only a few minutes out of town, and the same ridge that draws summer traffic up to the high lakes drops its weather straight down onto Main Street all winter. Big Iron Excavation runs the machines here that spend summer cutting building pads and running water lines, and when the plateau starts dumping snow, those machines get a blade instead of a bucket. The valley floor sits at a good elevation already, so snow that falls here tends to stay rather than turn back to rain, piling against the old brick storefronts and the ranch fences alike. The crew clears long farm and construction-site driveways first, the ones too long for a homeowner's own shovel, before working down into the smaller in-town lots. It's the same iron doing winter's version of a summer's work.
