About Erda Sod

Erda Sod spends its summers growing the grass that lawns across Tooele Valley get laid from, long green rows running flat between the Oquirrh Mountains on one side and the Stansbury range on the other, and in winter that same open ground turns to the company's second trade: clearing what falls on it. The valley here is wide and mostly rural, hay fields and sod fields and the long gravel lanes that connect them, so a storm can dust one field white while leaving the field next to it nearly bare, depending on which way the wind carried it off the Stansburys. The crew plows the same lanes they drive all summer hauling pallets of sod, blade replacing the flatbed for the season. Driveways out here tend to be long, straight, and unpaved, more field road than street, which suits a crew that already knows how to read this ground. Come spring, the same lanes get another pass — this time laying sod instead of clearing it, the ground never really taking a break between jobs.
