West of the rooftops, where Clearfield gives way to the marsh grass and willows of Clearfield State Park, the ice comes in quiet and stays late into the season, long after the neighborhoods have thawed. LaytonScape works the other side of that line — the driveways and walkways of the subdivisions between the park and the freeway — pushing snow off pavement before school buses start their rounds. A plowed lot here holds its edges cleanly against the wind that comes whipping off the lake flats. The crew salts walkways along the fence lines where shade keeps ice stubborn well into afternoon. It's plain work in a plain, flat town, cold enough some winters to test every square foot they clear.
