Southwest of Cedar Hills, Utah Lake takes the last of the sun and turns the whole valley copper for ten minutes before dark. Spring on this bench is a negotiation: March comes in dry and brown, the ground thaws in patches, and everything waits on water. Grass Masters spends those weeks on the unglamorous part — raking out the winter, punching aeration plugs across tired turf, overseeding the thin places, timing the first feeding so color arrives all at once instead of in blotches. Then one warm week in April the street goes green and the mowers come back out. Standing at the curb after that first cut, lines straight and edges sharp, is one of the better feelings in this line of work.
