Palmer Sprinkling spends its summers running irrigation lines across Blanding's yards, and in winter it turns the same routes into snow routes, clearing the driveways it waters all season once the flurries start coming down off the Abajo Mountains. Storms here rarely dump much — this high desert gets a light scatter more often than a real dump — so a lot of the winter work is the same short, frequent passes the crew already knows from summer sprinkler checks. Evening is often the better hour, once the day's traffic has packed down whatever fell and before the overnight cold locks it into ice. The crew works the residential blocks near Edge of the Cedars and out along the newer streets toward the highway, salting steps and walkways as they go. It's a small operation working a small town, but the driveways get done in the order the crew already knows by heart.
