Mount Timpanogos rises directly over Alpine, its upper slopes holding snow long before it ever reaches the valley floor, and Avant Garde times its plowing runs to that same rhythm, clearing driveways along the benches at the base of the Wasatch before the heavier storms roll down off the peak. This is a town of orchards and horse properties tucked against the mouth of American Fork Canyon, where the Alpine Loop closes for winter and wind funneling out of the canyon can dump snow on one street while leaving the next bare. Elevation here means an earlier first snow and a later last one than the valley towns below, and driveways on the higher benches need more frequent attention through a long stretch of cold. The light after a storm clears off Timpanogos has a particular clarity to it, hard blue sky, snow blinding white on the ridgeline, the kind that makes a freshly plowed driveway look almost carved. Getting those benches and canyon-mouth properties open again before the morning commute down into the valley is the quiet, steady point of the work.
