Evergreen Lawn

About Evergreen Lawn

Wichita Falls stages a late-summer bicycle ride called the Hotter'N Hell Hundred, and nobody who has spent an August here needs the name explained. Evergreen Lawn takes up the challenge that heat poses, keeping lawns mowed, edged and cared for so they keep their color while the red dirt of the Rolling Plains bakes around them. Overhead, training jets from Sheppard Air Force Base trace straight paths across the sky, and on a freshly striped lawn below, the mowing lines answer them just as straight. Timing carries the season: cutting high enough to shade the roots, never pushing grass too hard in the fiercest stretch of heat, and letting cool September mornings do their share of the healing. Come fall, a lawn that came through summer still green is something to be proud of in this town.
