About Tall Green

Evening is the good hour in West Odessa: the pump jacks go to silhouettes, the sky opens orange from one edge of the flat to the other, and the day's cut grass smells sweeter than it did at noon. Tall Green ends its rounds in that light — mowing, edging, hedge trimming, and a last pass with the blower down the drive. A lawn out here earns its name, because getting turf to stand up thick in caliche country takes mowing height, patience and a schedule kept. The name is the whole ambition, plainly stated. When the coyotes start up east of the county road, the yards are done and squared away.
