Noonday Gardens

About Noonday Gardens

At midday in Waco the prairie light comes down flat and white, and a blade of grass throws hardly any shadow at all. Noonday Gardens works the hours on either side of that — early, while dew still beads on the Bermuda, and late, when the heat lets go and the mower stripes run long across a yard. The work is mowing, edging, trimming and clearing what's been cut, carried on until the whole lot reads as one clean sheet from the curb. Blackland clay keeps its own opinions here, cracking wide in August and swelling shut with the first honest rain, and a lawn held to a rhythm rides that out better than one left to fend for itself. That rhythm is what gets carried up and down the streets of Waco, Woodway and Speegleville.
