About Big Jerry’s Lawn Service,LLC

In the deep part of a Venus summer the day does its real living at either end — early, before the heat sets its weight down, or late, when the cicadas start up and the light goes long and gold across the hayfields. That is when Big Jerry's Lawn Service, LLC is out working: mowing, string-trimming the fence lines, edging the walks, clearing the cuttings off drive and porch. Black prairie clay opens in August cracks wide enough to lose a bolt in, and a lawn kept on a steady schedule is what carries a yard through it. What gets left behind is the plain, satisfying evidence of a job taken to the end — even stripes, a sharp border, nothing scattered. Come dusk the yard cools off and the whole street smells like cut grass.
