Garcia's lawn

About Garcia's lawn

Late in a Texarkana afternoon the sun drops behind the pines and the whole of Pleasant Grove turns gold for about twenty minutes. That is a fine hour to finish a lawn — the stripes catch the low light and the fresh edge along the driveway reads like a drawn line. Garcia's lawn works these streets steadily through the long growing season, mowing, trimming the fence corners, and clearing the walks before the truck rolls. The grass here does not rest much between April and October, so the work is regular and the standard stays the same on the hundredth yard as on the first. There is pride in pulling away and seeing the place sit up straighter than it did an hour ago.
