By late October every lawn on the street disappears under what the trees and the wind brought. Loper Landscaping takes the season out — leaf removal, fall cleanup, the last cuts, beds cut back before the ground hardens — and brings it back in come April with the spring cleanup and the first mow. In between it is the steady weekly work of mowing, trimming and edging, a yard held to the same shape from May through October. Raking a lawn down to bare, tidy turf just ahead of the freeze is one of the more honest jobs there is. Sweetwater and the towns nearby all sit inside the same short drive.
