Yard Man

About Yard Man

October in St. Hedwig is the good stretch. The heat finally lets go, the grass slows but does not stop, and the cedar elms start letting loose over everybody's front yard. Yard Man runs the neighborhood round straight through it — mow, edge, trim, blow, leaf cleanup, gate shut on the way out. No mystery to any of it, just the same yards done the same week, kept the way a yard ought to look from the sidewalk. A lawn tended all year is a small steady kindness to a street, and a town this size notices.
