About APEX Lawn Co.

By one o'clock in July the air over Rayford Road has weight to it, and somewhere south a thunderhead is stacking up white over the Gulf. APEX Lawn Co. works straight through that hour — mower running, the shade of a loblolly measured out in passes, water bottles sweating on the truck seat. Cut a little high in the heat, cut often, keep the edges crisp, and a Spring lawn will hold its color deep into September. Beds get weeded, hedges get shaped, and the walks are swept clear of clippings before the rain arrives to do it messily. The payoff is the drive-by at dusk: a green rectangle still holding its stripes while the sky goes purple over the pines.
