Every new yard in Grayson County passes through a bare-ground stage — graded blackland clay, hot to the touch in July, not a blade of green in sight. The Goat Sod & Landscaping is happiest right there: rolls stacked in the shade, the ground worked smooth, seams laid tight until a raw lot becomes a sheet of turf you can cross barefoot by August. Alongside the sod comes landscape work, shaping beds and planting areas so a yard has some bones to it, plus mowing, trimming and edging once the roots have taken hold. North Texas asks a great deal of a young lawn in its first summer, and watching one knit in and hold is the best part of the job. The work runs through Sherman and out toward Pottsboro, Southmayd and Whitesboro.
