February is the cutback month in Schertz — the grass is still sleeping, the crape myrtles stand bare, and the beds show every honest flaw they hid all summer. It is the best window of the year to reset a landscape: shrubs pruned back to good structure, beds re-cut with a spade so the border is a real line again, old mulch pulled and fresh mulch laid dark and even. Bed work, mulch installation, shrub trimming, weeding and regular mowing carry the property from there straight through the growing season. When the first warm week arrives and the turf greens up against those crisp bed lines, the contrast is the whole payoff. A landscape set up properly in winter barely needs rescuing in July.
