About Broome's Lawn Care

East of town the blackland runs out toward Marion, clay that turns to gumbo in a June rain and bakes back to stone by Thursday. Bermuda grass thrives on that punishment, and the mowing gets timed to it — cut when the ground will hold a wheel, edge while the line is still soft, clear the walks before the wind swings around out of the southeast. Weekly mowing, string trimming around posts and pipes, and seasonal cleanups keep a Schertz yard from ever getting ahead of the people who live in it. The good moment comes at the end, looking back down a finished stretch and seeing one even grade with no scalped humps where the clay heaved. The dew burns off, a killdeer moves down the fence line, and the next street is waiting.
