San Saba grows pecans in the river bottoms, and by autumn the whole county smells faintly of husks and dust. J&M Backyard Revival works the yards up on the terraces above the San Saba River, bringing back backyards that got away from their owners — mowing down the overgrowth, trimming and edging, clearing brush until the shape of the place shows again. Hill Country ground is thin over limestone and it does not forgive neglect, but it answers fast to attention.
