Hole In One Lawns

About Hole In One Lawns

Late afternoon along Broadway the pecans throw long shadows and the grass finally cools enough to cut clean. Hole In One Lawns takes its name as a nudge toward the tidy finish: the fairway stripe across an open yard, the cup-round circle worked in around a mailbox post, the line held straight where turf meets curb. Mowing, edging, trimming and carting off what comes up, week after week through a growing season that barely pauses. Grass in this city runs from March deep into November, so the calendar is less about starting than about keeping pace. From the river bend at Brackenridge Park out to the blocks north and east, that is the round they play.
