Built to spec

About Built to spec

The old fort at the south end of downtown is a lesson in square corners — limestone barracks set around a parade ground in lines that have not drifted in a century and a half. Built to spec takes its name at its word and its edges the same way: mow lines running parallel to the walk, bed borders cut to a set depth, shrubs trimmed to a plane you can sight down. On a clear January morning, with the turf dormant and tan, the geometry of a yard is easy to read and easy to correct. Mowing, edging, trimming, weed control and cleanup — plain services held to a drawn line. What comes back is a property that looks measured rather than merely mowed.
