About Canebrake Service Company

On a February morning the fog lies low in the Rowlett Creek bottom, and the cane and winter grass along the bank hold it until the sun burns through. Canebrake Service Company starts its days in that grey, when the mower is cold and the town is still quiet out along Liberty Grove Road. Dormant-season work is mostly discipline, keeping edges honest, clearing winter litter, cutting back the ragged growth so the green-up comes in even instead of patchy. Then spring arrives here all at once, and the route tightens into a weekly beat that runs until the last mow of October. A lawn kept steady through the cold looks it in April.
