Yardas Lara

About Yardas Lara

Down here a yard is called a yarda, and it is treated like a room of the house — where the grill lives, where the kids are turned loose, where the family ends up when the sun finally goes down behind the palms. Yardas Lara keeps that room in order: mowing, edging, trimming, shrub work and clearing away every bit of what falls. At dusk in Palmview the bougainvillea along the fences goes almost fluorescent and the air cools maybe five merciful degrees, and a freshly cut yarda is the best seat in town. The work is steady because the growing is steady, all through the long Valley year. Cut, edged, swept, and handed back ready to be used.
