Paige sits in the sandy, rolling country of eastern Bastrop County, not far from the Lost Pines — that storied island of loblolly forest stranded far west of the rest of the Texas pinelands. Lost Pines Landscape Co. carries that landmark's name into yards here, where yaupon and cedar elm crowd along the property edges and deep sand drains almost as fast as it rains. The work is landscaping and lawn care: beds shaped and kept clean, plantings arranged to suit the light, lawns mowed and edged so everything sits in proportion. In May, before summer fully lands, the countryside hums with bees and the evenings stretch long and warm along US 290. A landscape that fits this soil and this light looks as though it simply grew that way, and that is the aim.
