South of the Guadalupe the day starts early in Nixon, mesquite shadows still long and the heat holding off for one more hour. @GATITOSLANDSCAPING takes that hour, running the mower while the dew is on and finishing with edging and trimming before the sun stands straight overhead. Gonzales County grass is tough grass — it takes the sun, takes the dry spell, and comes roaring back after a rain — and it repays a cut that leaves a little height on it. Clippings come off the sidewalk and the drive at the end, because a yard is not done until the concrete is bare. By midday the lawn looks tended and the truck is already on the next street.
