The Garden of Eden Lawn

About The Garden of Eden Lawn

In April a mockingbird will run through its whole repertoire from the top of a Midland fence post while the Bermuda underneath goes from tan to green in about ten days. The Garden of Eden Lawn works for that stretch all year. Beds are cleared and edged, shrubs pruned back into shape, weeds pulled before they set seed, and the mowing begun as soon as the grass asks for it. Naming a yard in dry country after a garden is a bit of a promise, and it gets kept in ordinary ways — a clean cut every week, tidy borders, walks swept, nothing left ragged. By May the difference between a lawn that was tended and one that was left alone is visible from the end of the block.
