A New Leaf

About A New Leaf

In October the pecans on Mesquite's older lots begin letting go, and a lawn can disappear under gold in one windy afternoon. A New Leaf works that season hard, raking and hauling and clearing the beds until grass shows again. The rest of the year runs on a steady rotation of mowing and edging, string trimming along fences and mailbox posts, shrubs kept in shape. Blackland clay makes for stubborn ground out here, and a lawn that comes through a Texas summer still green has been paid attention to. The reward is a simple one: a raked yard on a cool morning, the smell of cut grass in the shortening light.
