By late July the cicadas take over the trees along Military Parkway and the afternoons carry a real weight to them. Alvarado's Lawn Care starts early against that heat, mowing while there is still shade on the east side of the houses and edging walks and drives before the sun gets high. Trimmers work the fence lines and the tight spots a mower cannot reach, and the blower finishes the job so nothing is left sitting on concrete. Beds get weeded and shrubs get cut back, because a yard in a Mesquite August needs help holding its shape. It is plain work, and it is satisfying: the whole lot squared away before noon.
