The LawnMen

About The LawnMen

Six in the morning on Expressway 83, trailer gates rattling and headlights strung out along the frontage road — that is where the day starts. The LawnMen begin early because in McAllen the workable hours come before noon and everything after is endurance. A crew moves across a property the way a good song moves: mower on the open turf, trimmer at the posts and beds, edger down the drive, blower last, nobody standing around waiting on anybody. Hedges get shaped when they need shaping, and clippings never sit bleaching on the pavement. By the time the heat settles over the Valley in earnest, a dozen yards are cut, cleared and left crisp behind them.
