Gage Gardens

About Gage Gardens

Marathon sits high in the Chihuahuan Desert, about four thousand feet up, where mornings come cool and dry and the Glass Mountains to the north catch the first sun. Green grass is a deliberate thing in country like this, and Gage Gardens tends it that way, cutting it, shaping its borders and keeping each lawn's margin clean against gravel and bare desert. When the summer monsoon rains sweep in and the land flushes green, the turf surges too, and steady cutting keeps it in hand. At day's end the light turns amber on the hills, and stars come out by the thousands over a town known for its dark nights. A small square of well-kept lawn out here feels like an oasis.
