Luf-Nac Tree Service

About Luf-Nac Tree Service

There is a stretch of road between Lufkin and Nacogdoches that timber trucks have worn smooth, and the name of this outfit comes straight off it. Winter is when the work shows itself: sweetgums bare, the Angelina bottoms the color of strong tea, every split fork and dead limb finally visible against a gray sky. Luf-Nac Tree Service reads them then — pruning out what will not make another season, thinning the sail on a pine standing too near a bedroom wall, removing the trunks that have gone quiet at the heart. When a line of weather comes through and leaves a yard in pieces, the crew cuts, stacks and loads until the ground looks like nothing happened there. In a town shaped by sawmills, doing right by a standing tree feels like the other half of the same trade.
