About Mr Speedy Gonzalez

There is an art to being quick without being careless, and it gets learned in a Lubbock July, when the sun sits straight overhead and the shade under a Clapp Park elm is worth crossing a street for. Mr Speedy Gonzalez works that heat at a clip — trailer down, mower off, one steady pattern across the front, then the back, then the trim line where grass meets fence. Edges get a hard, straight cut along drive and sidewalk, and the walks are blown bare so nothing tracks indoors. Afternoons out here belong to the cicadas and the west wind; the mowing is best finished before either gets loud. Customers come home to a yard that was noisy for twenty minutes and calm for a week.
