About Sam Care

At dusk Lake Dunlap goes flat as a pane of glass and the far bank doubles itself in the water. Sam Care finishes the day around that hour — the mowing done, the edges cut, the trimming closed out along the fences and the walks blown clean. It is unhurried work: keep the grass on a schedule, keep the borders honest, keep the clippings out of the street. A yard tended that way asks nothing of anyone and gives the whole road something. Lake Dunlap, New Braunfels, Seguin and McQueeney.
