About Lawn Steward

By late August the ground on Kennedale's west-facing rise has gone hard, hairline cracks running through it, and the Fort Worth skyline sits in a haze you can nearly taste. Lawn Steward reads a lawn in that season the way a farmer reads a field — mowing high to shade the roots, watching where water runs off instead of soaking in, feeding and treating so the turf has something left to come back on. Aeration opens up tight soil; unhurried cutting keeps stress off the crown of the grass. When the September rains finally break through, a lawn tended through the dry weeks greens up in days rather than limping into fall. That patience is the craft, and a deep even green in October is the proof of it.
