In January the Buffalo Bayou corridor west of the Beltway goes quiet and gold — bare sycamores, low sun through the Terry Hershey trees, a cold snap that browns the Bermuda and then lets it go. Gruene Landscape works the Memorial and Energy Corridor yards right through that stretch, cutting when it wants cutting, edging the drives, clearing leaf litter off the walks and the pavers. When the freeze lifts and the first warm week rolls in, the mowers go back out and the lines come back with them. Deep front setbacks, shaded lots, long curving curbs — every foot of that asks for a straight edge. Handing a yard back looking finished is a good feeling and it does not get old.
