About liam’s landscaping

Out on the West End the island goes wide and low, sand under the turf, Offatts Bayou catching the late light in long silver bands. The wind off the water never really quits, and St. Augustine takes it the way island things do, thick and sprawling and glad of the salt. liam's landscaping works that stretch in the cooling part of the afternoon: mowing, edging, trimming the runners back off the driveways, shaping shrubs, then raking and hauling the clippings so a yard is left with nothing but its own lines. There is a particular pleasure in the last pass, when the mower stripes lie straight into the breeze and the palms rattle overhead like they approve. Come evening the cut grass smells green over the smell of the bay, and that is the whole point of the day.
