Late February, before the green-up, is when the shrubs get honest with you: bare enough to see the shape underneath, close enough to spring to bounce back from a real cut. Mr.Landscaper spends those weeks on the west side of Farmers Branch toward the Coppell and Irving lines, shaping hedges, thinning foundation plantings that have outgrown their windows, and re-cutting bed edges that softened over winter. Then mowing season starts and does not let up, with weekly cuts, trimming, edging, blow-downs and beds kept weeded straight through the heat. Pruned right in winter, a hedge holds its line all summer with almost nothing asked of it. That is the trade in a sentence: do the patient work in the cold and the warm months look easy.
