Yard Regulators

About Yard Regulators

Saturday morning in Edna sounds like distant mowers and a train somewhere past the highway, and by ten the dew has burned off the flat country running south toward the Lavaca. That is Yard Regulators' hour. The work is about lines — turf held to one height, a straight edge where the grass meets the drive, corners cut square instead of rounded off by hurry. A lawn on the coastal plain will run wild in a week of heat and afternoon rain, so the answer is a regular pass, every time, on time. Around town and out along the county roads, the finished yard is the argument: tidy from the curb, sharp at the borders, swept clean before the truck pulls away.
